What Types Of Contruction Fences Should I Opt For?

There are several types of temporary construction fences available in the market today. But what are these fences and what are they used for? Well, they are a kind of fences that are used for any long or short term construction projects. They are often used to surround the whole area to maintain some level of security during the construction process. Construction sites are often highly populated meaning that they are high foot traffic areas which call for additional security and safety measures. These fences are available in driven temporary fences, specialized temporary fences and temporary panels. Here are different types of temporary fences in more details:

1. Temporary fencing panels

These are the most commonly used of all temporary construction fences. They are used for going across concrete or pavements in construction sites. They are moveable panels that allow for no demolition to the pavement. Temporary fence panels are available in 10” and 12” panes and sit on stainless steel or galvanized metal stands. Clamps are used to keep these panels tightly bound together to provide enough security for the construction project. They are normally used on short term projects.

2. Specialized temporary fences

These require specified pipe dimensions and concrete footing. They are mostly used on government property or military installations. They are used in sites where security can’t be breached during a modification or replacement project. Ports regularly use these sorts of specialized fences and often match their perimeter security fence. Barbed wires are the commonest type of these fences. Bottom tension wires are used to keep the bottom of the fence taut in order to prevent a sag in the fence.

3. Driven temporary fences

As a matter of fact, yes wind screening does increase security in a construction or high security site. Wind screens are also often added to the construction fence so as reduce the spread of debris and dust. Not only this, they also add a remarkable level of privacy to the project site. Depending on the specific needs of a project site, privacy slats can also be used instead of wind screens. In high security areas, barbed wires are normally added together with strong fence ties or heavier gauge fabrics.  For added security with wind screening, the posts need to be set in concrete footings.

Temporary fence codes

The codes for temporary fences differ from one fence location to another. As such, they have to be specified for a particular job in the project plans.  The basic temporary fence materials are 11.5 gauge wires that are tied to 15/8” SS15 posts or 15 fence posts in simple terms. This is the commonest style employed in construction or fencing projects. The posts are typically 6-foot high and 8-feet in length.

They are normally driven into the ground instead of being set in concrete. Chain link fabrics are normally tied up using aluminum ties as they are easier to work with compared to durable steel ties. Fencing panels are normally 6-feet in height and 10-feet in width. They are usually made from 1 3/8 “or 1 5/8” SS15 steel pipe meshed with 11.5 gauge fencing fabric.

All in all, temporary fence choices are based on varying privacy, landscape and security enriching aspects. However, all of their basic functions are to mark the boundaries of a project site, people and animal containment and so forth. Before shopping for any of these temporary fences, it is recommended to perform some research on community or homeowner association restrictions so as to make an informed choice.
